Media Takes Notice of Kids Needing Business Skills

How excited I was to see USA Today columnist and author of Grindhopping: Build a Rewarding Career without Paying Your Dues, Laura Vanderkam embracing the concept of KIDS learning entrepreneurship. In Tuesday’s article (Feb 6th) titled “Get a Job? No, make a job”, she says to prepare our children for today’s economy, we need to teach them workplace skills and entrepreneurship.

She references a trend tracked by Jr. Achievement that finds more and more middle and high school students would like to be self-employed at some point.  (a 7% increase in 2 years).

Organizations like National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), the Kaufman Foundation and Jr. Achievement have been teaching business skills to children for decades.  What makes this particular article interesting is that it shows the media is starting to pick up on the importance of our children learning these essential life skills.

Not just media, but a concern to major components of society, while important to keep stressing it, fact that till now its much relegated from front cover stories tells all of the upward hill struggle in the future of the youth in entreprise/business and society.
